Pricing Policy Update for OpenObserve Cloud
Today, we're announcing an important update to OpenObserve's pricing policy that will take effect on June 2nd, 2025. From this date forward, we are moving to a fully usage-based pricing model with no minimums. This should allow for lower pricing for our customers ingesting small amounts of data or only using a subset of the platform. Additionally, we are discontinuing the OpenObserve Cloud free tier. We recommend that free-tier users either move to the standard plan or self-host with their favorite infrastructure provider. Current free-tier Cloud customers will have 30 days to move to a paid plan.
Our Pricing Structure
We've designed our pricing to be straightforward and fair, ensuring you only pay for what you actually use:
- Ingestion: $0.30 per GB for logs, metrics & traces
- Query Volume: $0.01 per GB
- Pipelines: $0.10 per GB Data Processed | $0.30 per GB sent for Remote destinations
- RUM & Session Replay: $1 per 1,000 sessions
- Error Tracking: $0.15 per 1,000 events
- Action Scripts - $1 per 1k runs
Special Provisions for Existing and New Customers
We value our community and want to ensure a smooth transition:
- Existing Cloud Standard-tier Customers: After 30 days, we are eliminating the flat monthly fee that you are charged for service and moving you to the pay-as-you-go model.
-Existing Cloud Free-tier Customers: You'll receive a 30-day exemption period starting June 2nd, 2025 before the new pricing applies to maintain service to your account.
- New Customers: All new accounts can take advantage of a 14-day free trial to experience the full power of OpenObserve before committing.
Why We're Making This Change
This transition to usage-based pricing for all Cloud customers represents a significant milestone in OpenObserve's evolution. The model allows us to:
- Align costs with value: You only pay for the actual resources you consume
- Scale with your needs: Your costs grow proportionally with your usage
- Maintain transparency: Clear, predictable pricing with no hidden fees
- Sustain development: Continue investing in the platform's capabilities, performance, and reliability
What This Means for You
If you're currently using OpenObserve's Free-tier cloud service:
- You'll have a 30-day exemption period before the new pricing takes effect for your account.
- After this period, you'll need a valid credit card on file and will be charged based on your actual usage. You may provide your credit card details prior to the switch-over date and not incur any additional charges.
- You'll continue receiving the same full-stack observability platform you rely on.
